Albertslund Terror Korps & Kid Kishore

Kid Kishore is a Danish musician, DJ and producer. He describes his own square, fast beats, alternative sounds and sometimes Indian-inspired vocals, as the so-called ‘perker tech (Danish ghetto tech). He is in the course of 2007 reached a broad Danish audience with its innovative numbers and technical skills.

He used a transitional name, Trentemøller, after the world-famous house-and technomusiker Anders Trentemøller.


Albertslund Terror Korps This crew consists of Dj Hvad, Kishore, Cancer and Vj Livstraet, all of them signed to the label Syg Nok (check their site for a lot of free tracks). Quite similar stuff to the solo material of Kishore, only more whack and hardcore. (Interesting detail: Albertslund is a poor suburb to Copenhagen with some of the first houses in the Nordic countries built out of prefabricated units. Finnish architects traveled here in the sixties when designing the massive expansion of suburbs.)

Jun Ray Song Chang confronts the talent of self-taught tabla-bongo artist ASA-CHANG and traditionally trained tabla master U-Zhaan, with additional input by programmer Hidehiko Urayama and mixmaster Kiyoshi Kusaka.

Jun Ray Song Chang collects a mini-album released on Hot Cha Records, and an EP, published by Cornelius’s imprint Trattoria. ASA-CHANG’s use of the small Indonesian dandud bongo, which he plays mock-tabla style, contrasts with the more academic style of U-Zhaan.
The conscious and respectful attitude toward Indian percussive styles is balanced by a more playful approach to their organisation in the spectrum. The extreme complexity of the work presented here means that Jun Ray Song Chang requires to be listened to with a lot of attention a few times before it reveals its enchanting and melodic nature. The varying flow of information reaching the ear, combined with its highly unusual structure, can lead the listener to switch off at times, only to return to it later with a more open mind.

Each track’s therefore turning into a timeless microcosm where imagination rules supreme. The group’s existential paradox: the link between introversion and extroversion. All in all, Malnoïa is the double analyze, both curious and sensitive but far from being simply visceral of a perfectible world. It is a salutary burden, a personal rejection of standardization. A corrosive desire for creation. A musical and literary quest.

Born in 1983 in a small village in East Anglia. Moved to Brighton when I was 3. Started making tracks age 16. First release as Mummy Fortuna’s Theatre Company on Lexoleum compilation on Lex Records with my good friend Sketch age 18. Released our first record proper, Born Of Man And Flies, the following year. Released Scarred For Life with vocalist and friend Legs MC as Amateur Dramatics. Played MPC in Sketch’s live band. Released tracks with John Tsunam and Bougaloo. Released tracks on compilations on Project Mooncircle, Abandon Building and Subversiv Records. Finished first solo album. Called it Amongst Strangers, released in Japan. Got a live show together for Amongst Strangers with Irwin Max. Played some shows. Inertia EP released on Project Mooncircle. Moved out of Brighton to London. Played shows in Japan. Played shows in central Europe. Started working with Gordon coordinating Project Mooncircle. Finished second LP. Called it What Else There Is. Released it on Project Mooncircle September 2008.

With their lo-fi aesthetic and crackling blips of analog, the French DJ/producer pair Mister Modo & Ugly Mac Beer concoct dark, murky soundscapes that reflect their hip-hop heroes MF Doom, RZA, and DJ Muggs. Mister Modo's expertise leans more toward crafting beats while Ugly Mac Beer serves as the main scratch technician. Mac Beer had established his own record label, Diess Productions, in 1999, which was mainly focused on DJ-related vinyl and beat-juggling material, before teaming up with Modo for the first time on the 2005 7" "Weed with Roots in Hell." A European companion of sorts to the Hava Narghile collection that came out in the States the same year -- Gökhan Aya provides the liner notes and assembly here as he did with Jay Dobis on the other collection -- the rather windily titled 26 Turkish Beat, Psych and Garage Delights is packed with merry late-'60s madness from Anatolia. There's a bit of overlap with Hava Narghile in the track listing itself -- among the repeat numbers are "Agit" by Yabancilar and Haramiler's "Çamlica Yolunda" -- but for the most part these tracks are new to the digital realm, and those taken with the first compilation will definitely want this one. If the packaging of 26 Turkish Beats is not quite up to the levels of Hava Narghile -- somebody really needed to properly proofread Aya's essays and description -- what really matters is the music, and that sounds great. As with much such regional psych material recorded around the world during the genre's heyday, many of the surviving recordings here are only available through mastering off vinyl -- sometimes a frustration, but in many cases the results are remarkably crisp and clear (check out the excellent lead track by the legendary Mogollar, "Eastern Love," for a fine example). As always, covers of overseas items alternate with more homegrown songs or adaptations, thus the appearance of jaunts through the likes of Paul Revere & the Raiders and the Yardbirds. The find of the set has to be Bunalimlar, whose heavy-ass "Tas Var Köpek Yok," the band's 1969 debut single, kicks out some major acid/folk/psych jams; not far behind is the fried solo-crazy "Nenni" by Beybonlar, consisting of teenagers (not to mention an 11-year-old drummer!). Add it all up and it's a mix of inspired amateurism, occasional revelatory insanity, and the sheer buzz of performing and getting one's groove on -- universal qualities no matter what the language being used. ~ Ned Raggett, All Music Guide

Kgotso Semela aka Ben Sharpa aka Oh Kaptain My Kaptain (born March 25, 1977 in Soweto, South Africa) is a veteran underground rapper and music producer. Considered by many as one of South Africa’s most accomplished lyricists, Ben Sharpa is a founding member of cult crews Groundworks and Audio Visual.

Ben Sharpa has shared the stage with artists such as Immortal Technique, Jonzi D, Black Thought, Mr. Len and Jean Grae. In June 2006, Sharpa headlined alongside Wordsworth and Jonzi D as part of the Tri-Continental Hip Hop Festival - a historical 3-city hip hop tour that was held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Youth Month in South Africa.

He is also a founding member of the performance crew for the annual Hip-Hop Connected lyrical theatre event held at Artscape Theatre in cape town every September (Heritage Month).

In 2007 He was discovered by accomplished BB1 Radio DJ Mary-Anne Hobbs, and soon after performed at the annual Glastonbury Festival (June 2007) on the BBC1 Introducing Stage. Watch footage and see pics of the show here

After meeting on college radio in the late 80’s, Jonny Cuba & the Loop Professor realised they had similar tastes in hip-hop, films and all things funky. They began their induction into London’s club scene.
Their first LP DYNAMISM (Ninjatune 1999) got rave reviews for its mix of ‘true-school’ hip-hop & heavy instrumental beats. Since then they have toured extensively in Europe alongside the Herbaliser, DJ Food, Kid Koala, DJ Vadim and Nightmares On Wax – another highlight was DJing at Mohammed Ali’s 60th birthday. They’ve also been working hard in the studio, travelling back and forth between New York and London for recording sessions.

Somehow, with this much content, the beats still manage to sound gloriously minimal and disjointed. Fans like Benji B, Andrew Meza and XLR8R have been eagerly snapping up his tracks, as Sam freeze frames Electro energy and spits it back out as twisted future Jazz. The most striking and consistent aspect of Oneida’s music is their use of and fascination with repetition. Their 2002 LP, Each One Teach One, for instance, begins with two especially long tracks, Sheets of Easter and Antibiotics, the former over fourteen minutes long, the latter more than sixteen. Both of these songs are composed of one repeated riff (with a few short interludes on Antibiotics). In addition to the use of repetition Oneida’s music can be distinguished by the bandmember’s extensive use of and enthusiasm for antique keyboards and analog electric pianos.
Originally recording on Turnbuckle Records (their first two albums in 1997 and 1999), the band now runs Brah Records, an imprint of Jagjaguwar (Jagjaguwar group at Last.fm). In September 2007 the group celebrated 10 years of existence with a concert at the P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center in NYC.

Manau - Panique Celtique {1998}

Manau is a hip hop group formed in 1998, known for their fusing of traditional Celtic melodies with modern rap beats. It was initially composed of Martial Tricoche, Cédric Soubiron, and R.V. (Hervé) Lardic until R.V.’s departure and replacement by Gregor Gandon. Although the band is currently based in Paris, all of the members trace their roots back to Brittany. The group’s name comes from the old Gaelic name for the Isle of Man.

KANKA

Kanka is a French dub producer and multi-instrumentalist player: he plays drums, percussions, keyboard, bass, and machines.
He began his musical career in 1997 by integrating the reggae band King Riddim. With this band, he releases an album in year 2000. Then he promotes the album and participates to 200 concerts everywhere in France.
In parallel to the band, Kanka decides to play dub music. To become dub producer.
In year 2003, he releases a first album, Every Night’s Dub. This album is a self production and will never be distributed on a large scale. This one marks however an interesting collaboration with the vocalist Mc Olivia (from the BLACKBOARD JUNGLE SOUND SYSTEM). The album especially enables him to take part in many compilation in France and Europe.
His name and his music were heard and the French dub label Hammerbass which closely watch his productions makes it sign afterwards. In year 2005, the album Don’t Stop Dub is released.
In this album, the sound of Kanka is oriented “stepper”, influenced by the British and Jamaican dub music but with a very dynamic rhythmic and a heavyweight bass line. Mc Oliva is still present but the British toaster Brother Culture, from the Manasseh Sound System, takes part in the album too. The forceful of the Kanka’s music is also in the power of the vocal.
Kanka continues his work with the band King Riddim and another album is published in 2006.
This same year, Kanka proposes his third album, Alert! The bases of the stepper are reinforced, the bass line is still so heavy and also a lot of the hypnotic sounds appear and traverse the album as a whole. In this last album, the sound is a little bit more electronic.
